Malen

Malén Burgos Albacar, has collaborated with Alawa as a model in our recent campaign for the “Soul” collection. She is a great friend of the house and her life for us is a clear example of overcoming adversity. Here we tell you only a very small part of their struggles and achievements, although you can perceive the pain of the battles and of course also the joy of the victories.

María Magdalena, better known by “Malén”, is a 34-year-old Valencian woman, beautiful and charming, who works professionally and sporadically as a model for prestigious Spanish brands, while dedicating most of her time to the great project of her life: her family . Mom is two children, Malén and Pablo, and Miguel's wife, and she says "very happy". And even there, a privileged woman like many others, although it is true that her history has not been exactly easy.

Daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter and mother of "Malén´s". She is the eldest of seven siblings and the only one who, at two and a half years old, had a profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, which gradually caused her to lose hearing. Her parents and grandparents did everything possible visiting clinics and studying her, but little by little, her situation worsened until many years ago, after a strong emotional crisis in her partner, she completely lost her hearing.

Fortunately, in 2013 he was able to undergo an operation through which, thanks to an external device that he always carries with him, very slowly and with great effort, he is once again learning to listen and discern sounds.

What has the implant meant for you?

M- “The implant has given me a better quality of life and I listen to wonderful things… like my children and my family… among other things. I am still in the learning process and it will take a long time, I have a lot to learn. Little by little. Like the vast majority of things that the implant has given me are positive, I also have to live with what adaptation implies, the annoying noises, headaches, dizziness and others, but despite everything I would never go back. What's more, if now that I'm listening again they remove my implant, I think it would be hard for me to accept the fact that I didn't hear anything again. "

Throughout all this time and from a young age, Malén considers that the help and support of her parents has been unconditional and that without them, it would have been impossible to achieve all that she has achieved. It was they who encouraged her to take guitar and ballet classes, motivating her to transform her difficulties into challenges to conquer.

M- “They have taught me and continue to do so with their example, and fundamentally, they believe in me. They have taught me about the importance of living in the present and that happiness is in the little things.
Thanks to them, I feel proud of who I am and have the drive it takes to make important decisions. All those values are what I hope to be teaching my children. ”

Malén studied Law for two years, but after much thought she abandoned it, because she could not see herself studying something that required audition to practice it as she would have liked. So it was that she began to study Dentistry although she also suspended it later to face the challenge of her family, now she hopes to be able to retake it soon. Simultaneously with her studies, she was part of a Models Agency, until she considered that certain things from "that world" were not for her. However, years later and "with a clearer head" she has resumed and works from time to time for projects that excite her.

What do you like most about being a model?

M- “I have a good time, laughs, I do something different and I also like it. I always try to accept jobs that are only with me and that are in line with my principles. Knowing that they call you because they like your image is always flattering, although of course not the most important thing… in fact, I was the one who decided to depart a bit from that world until a few years ago, when I was more mature I decided to retake. ”

What about being a mother?

M- “From being a mother I like everything !!! spend as much time as I can with them, raise and educate them, give them lots of pampering and affection ... share our hobbies together, always make family plans, my priority is always them, and generally my plans arise based on the family plan or what they need . They first, the rest later. "

What things inspire you Malén? (and here he answers us bluntly!)

M- “My family, traveling, the sea and music.
The limitless love of my children, sincere, detached and unique.
Traveling and learning about other cultures, opening my mind to new ideas and customs, helps me find myself, discover new things and see how small I am in this immense world and the wonders it has. Each destination is a box of surprises and I always return home with a smile and full of energy.
The sea has always been present in my life since I was a child, I have lived precious moments near it with my loved ones. It transmits peace, calm and envelops me in a bubble of positive feelings.
Music also arouses many sensations in me. I heard, I stopped hearing and today, I hear again (not everything I wanted but enough). I dance, laugh, sleep, I get excited. Even when I have a bad time, music is able to calm me down. Fascinates me."

Thank you very much, Malén, for your beautiful work in the campaign of the collection, but, above all, thank you for sharing with us and our readers a bit of your life and your history of overcoming. You know this is your house, and here we always wait for you!
